RSU 16 Summer Meals Program

Who We Are

RSU 16 Food Services, in conjunction with Preble Street's Maine Hunger Initiative, is sponsoring meal sites for the Summer Food Service Program. SFSP is a federally funded program that is run by the United States Department of Agriculture. As site sponsors, RSU 16 Food Services prepares the food and the Maine Hunger Initiative organizes volunteer recruitment, advertisement, and logistics for the sites. The daily operations of the sites depends on deicated and caring volunteers like you!

What We Do

The mission of our program is to provide meals to hungry children throughout the summer. Many families who may be struggling to make ends meet financially incur extra costs during the summer when their children are not eating meals at school. The summer meals program is designed to augment these extra costs. Most importantly, the summer meals program feeds hungry children! As a volunteer with our organization, you will be responsible for serving children at these meal sites. All of our sites are open, meaning there is no application or paperwork necessary for children to eat. Any children ages 18 and under are welcome to eat. As a volunteer, you will be integral to the every day operation of the site. Some of your duties and responsibilities will be as follows: Report number of meals served to contact person in charge of each site Ensure meals are eaten at the site Serve entire meal Serve all children age 18 under and do not discriminate based on race, color, national origin, sex, age, sexual orientation, or disability Serve appropriate meals only during meal time More information about SFSP can be found here: http://www.fns.usda.gov/sfsp/summer-food-service-program-sfsp
