Maine Museum of Innovation, Learning and Labor

Who We Are

Museum L-A showcases the rich history of the Industrial Revolution and its workers in Lewiston-Auburn. The Museum is now playing an important part in the current economic and cultural revival ? as an everlasting tribute to the manufacturing heritage of the area and its workers.

What We Do

Family Fun and Learning At Museum L-A, children, parents and grandparents explore their heritage together with fun and educational activities for both the young and the young at heart. Validating Lives The years following the closing of the textile mills and shoe shops left a stillness in the Twin Cities not felt in a hundred and fifty years. Through the recording of oral histories, the Museum preserves the memories of those who journeyed here from Canada, Ireland, Russia and Greece, among other countries, to find jobs, build new lives, and raise families. Connecting Generations Museum L-A presents history in context by connecting the past to today. Grandparents access a means of explaining their childhood to their children and grandchildren; young visitors are stirred to ask their families about their own histories. Community Engagement At Museum L-A, we actively challenge visitors from our community to engage in the stories we tell, to teach us, and to participate in preserving our joint heritage. The stories of work, community, and immigration are stories we all share.
