STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Big Brothers Big Sisters Site Coordinator conducts his or herself professionally with high school and/or college students who are Big Brothers and Big Sisters, elementary and middle school aged Little Brothers & Little Sisters, and school personnel. Volunteer would be responsible for coordinating the Academy Hill School site based program on Monday afternoons from 3-4:30pm throughout the school year. This is a one year commitment.
All considered applicants will complete background checks, interview and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America training.
*This volunteer position can also be completed for course credit for college students.
SPECIFIC TASKS:
Build and maintain positive community relationships by effectively communicating with agency staff, administrative staff and teachers in target sites.
Promote positive relationships within Big Brothers Big Sisters Program by helping with recruitment of Bigs and Littles, assisting with the enrollment process, and supporting matches between mentors and children based on the needs of the children and the interests, personality, and experiences of the mentors; by monitoring and supervising matches according to established policies and procedures, providing support and information as needed.
Provide support to agency fundraising efforts by participating in fundraising activities.
ENSURE PROFESSIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICES by competently dealing with customers in a courteous and respectful manner, promptly following up on questions, providing business-like replies to inquiries and requests, by maintaining standards of exemplary professional conduct.
CONTRIBUTE TO TEAM EFFORT by prioritizing according to the needs of the program and Program Manager, accepting additional duties within the BBBS program to meet overall program goals, attending staff meetings, scheduled case conferencing, and actively participating in program teams as needed.
CARRY OUT ASSIGNED PROJECTS by working under the direction of the Program Manager or Program Director to assist other program staff with special projects.
SUPPORT AGENCY MISSION by participating in agency-wide activities; being involved in community activities and fostering a spirit of cooperation.

The word docent is derived from the Latin word “docere,†meaning “to teach.†Docents at the Poland Spring Preservation Society will be teaching our visitors about the Maine State Building, All Souls Chapel and The Historic Bottling Plant, along with the history of the property. This position is seasonal, May through October. Internships are also available if college credit is needed.

Training
               Training will be done by the Administrative Assistant. They will provide the tour speech and books to read about the history of the area. There are also numerous people available to ask questions about the history, if one is unclear. Docents will be required to shadow a tour by Admin or Volunteer, for each building before working independently. First tour will be supervised and critiqued.
               Training for other job duties will also be provided by the Administrative Assistant.
Tours
After the satisfactory completion of these requirements, docents will be requested to give tours. You will be responsible for keeping up with the frequently changing exhibitions and occasional changes to the permanent collections in the following ways:
-          Read materials related to the exhibitions and tour-giving methods. The Museum’s library of catalogues, art journals, books, and special exhibition information is available to docents anytime during Museum hours.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Stay in contact with Administrative Assistant (Kate MacGregor). She will be glad to work personally with you to help you prepare for your tours. Contact her if you have any questions or special needs at (207) 860-8513.

We've created some paper mustaches, funny hats and speech bubbles for folks to use as props but would love to have some more durable wooden versions created. We'll need a variety of mustaches, beards, glasses, hats, lips and more in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes. They'll need to be attached solidly to wooden dowels so folks can hold them up during their pictures! In addition to all that other stuff there are some really creative pieces we'd love to have as well. (A Batman Mask! Shakespeare's Hair! chalkboard painted thought bubbles!) We've got the templates you need to get started but welcome your own creative ideas as well! If you have the desire to make any or all of these we want you! Supply your own wood, dowels and paint or let us help pay for it (Just tell us what to get!)
