Role Description

Mission:
The Roberts Farm Planning Committee champions the Western Foothills Land Trust’s efforts to realize the vision for the Roberts Farm campus as a home for the Trust and community partners to nurture nature-based and agricultural education, outdoor recreation, and ecosystem conservation in western Maine.


Benefits:
Realizing this vision will establish the Roberts Farm campus and surrounding Preserve as:

  • A base for the Trust’s operations, educational and recreational programs.
  • A welcoming and inspiring place providing equitable access to the outdoors, to arts and culture, science, and to community.
  • An economic driver for the region as a destination for outdoor recreation tourism.
  • A safe home for physical and mental wellbeing through outdoor physical activity and connection to nature.
  • A resource to develop and demonstrate local regenerative agriculture practice to help mitigate and respond to climate change.
  • A place to learn healthy behaviors and connection to nature.
  • A gathering place for community members and organizations.
  • A venue to share the artistic gifts of the community, both visual and performing arts.


Role:
Members of the Advisory Committee will share with Western Foothills Land Trust their professional expertise; their diverse knowledge of constituent perspectives; their connections to local, national or international resources, colleagues or peers; their philanthropic support or other forms of needed assistance. The Advisory Committee has no governing function within the organization.


Expectations:

  • Attend quarterly meetings to review campus planning and implementation progress
  • Participate in community charette and online survey
  • Act in some significant ways to support the organization’s mission through your talent, time, and treasure
  • Allow the organization to publicize their name and participation on the Committee and
  • list name on letterhead and other communications
  • Attend events such as the annual meeting and special gatherings
  • Keep informed about plans, activities and needs of the organization
