Volunteer: ""Wood" you like to work with your hands?

Can you get creative with a lathe? Do you long to break out of the cookie-cutter birdhouse and stepping stool molds of woodworking? Then we want you! This summer we're hosting a variety of this ever-so-hip-these-days photo booths during Art Walks. We've created some paper mustaches, funny hats and speech bubbles for folks to use as props but would love to have some more durable wooden versions created. We'll need a variety of mustaches, beards, glasses, hats, lips and more in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes. They'll need to be attached solidly to wooden dowels so folks can hold them up during their pictures! In addition to all that other stuff there are some really creative pieces we'd love to have as well. (A Batman Mask! Shakespeare's Hair! chalkboard painted thought bubbles!) We've got the templates you need to get started but welcome your own creative ideas as well! If you have the desire to make any or all of these we want you! Supply your own wood, dowels and paint or let us help pay for it (Just tell us what to get!)

Volunteer: Volunteer tutors needed at Lewiston Public Library!

Help kids achieve academic success by offering homework help and general support! The program runs Monday-Thursday and offers drop-in homework help for students in grades 6 -12, with most students in grades 7-10. It runs from 3:30-5:30 and an average of 30 students come every day. It is primarily attended by ELL students from the refugee communities. These are very hard-working students and we are grateful for any time you can commit to helping them. You don?t need to be a math whiz or a spelling bee champ to help out ? and you don't need previous tutoring/teaching experience to apply. A lot of the students just need help understanding what they are reading, writing answers with correct grammar, using the computer to do projects, and learning basic math. Volunteers are provided with initial pre-service training before their first day and then ongoing support throughout the year.
